“St Kilda does feel as if it’s at the end of the world when you’re travelling here by boat – when you
see how tiny it is against the vast ocean. But when you work here, or visit here, it becomes your world… and it’s an extraordinary one. St Kilda really is quite unforgettable.”
Sue Loughran | Ranger
The archipelago of St Kilda has been described as the ‘islands at the edge of the world’ and captures all that’s wild and wonderful about Scotland. Flung in the storm-tossed waters of the Atlantic Ocean, 66km west of Benbecula, this most remote part of the British Isles was once home to an extraordinary way of human life and is now home to the most important seabird breeding colonies in all of north-west Europe.
